20th Century Pears

>> Sunday, March 07, 2010

Picked about 6 pears from the tree today. This year I didn't bother to cover any of the fruits with papers or garlic nets. These bird scarers actually worked. None of the fruits have been pecked. I hope I haven't spoken too soon !

The fruit count should come to round about 15 pears for the year. Not great but not complaining either. I love pears especially juicy sweet ones.

Your pears look lovely & no birds!! I'm going to pass your idea for bird scarers on to my Mom. She looses a lot of her pomegranates & apricots to the birds. Thanks, its such a great idea!

Hi Frances,

Yes it really works. Ask your Mom to start making them now. She will need heaps of them. As these bird scarers are so light it is easy to hang them on the tree. I use a long bamboo stick with a peg attached at the end.

The fruit tree will look much like a christmas tree with these fluttering and shimmering away.

If your Mom do try this out, I would love to know whether it works to scare off her birds.

Good luck.
